More of Hailey’s History |
|
This page was added to the website because several people were concerned about their own children or at least interested to know what Hailey’s symptoms have been over the years. Hailey’s earliest symptoms were chronic diarrhea & diaper rash and an apparently weak immune system. Her meconium was soft and not sticky, pudding like, she had a bleeding diaper rash by two days old. In her first twelve months of life she had croup three times had fevers high enough to end up in the Emergency Room (one where she as admitted to the hospital) on six occasions, she had three ear infections, confirmed influenza even though she had the flu shot, and five weeks after they confirmed the flu (when the cough from the flu hadn’t gone away) she was diagnosed with mycoplasma pneumonia. A graphic description of her bowel movements would include that they were pudding to watery, foamy, very light in color and very, very foul smelling. The diarrhea and diaper rash were “blown off” by the pediatrician as being normal due to breastfeeding. However, her stool was tested several times for bacterial infections that may be causing the diarrhea, simply because we have a pet snake. She also was diagnosed with eczema, cradle cap and reflux by the time she was six weeks old. She would get hives with every virus, unexplained fever or bacterial infection. Twice, we believed she had the chicken pox, because the hives were not irregular and blotchy, but rather appeared all over her body and looked like mosquito bites. The reflux turned into frequent vomiting as she became older, although her endoscopy results didn’t show any damage to her esophagus. Between 9 and 12 months she fell off her own growth curve, she fell from 85%ile to 45%ile and only gained a few ounces in those three months, the doctors started to take us a little more seriously. . . . .
